The
Sidewinder joins the SFMTA!
March 2010

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is one
of America’s oldest public transit agencies and the seventh
largest currently in the United States carrying more than 200
million riders annually. It is governed by its Board of
Directors and is composed of the San Francisco Municipal
Railway, the Division of Parking and Traffic (DPT) and the
Division of Taxis and Accessible Services (DTAS). The SFMTA’s
fleet is one of the most diverse in the world, utilizing
historic streetcars, modern rail vehicles, buses, trolleys,
cable cars and more.
Since the weather in San Francisco tends to be a bit damp, the
SFMTA was having a ‘spot’ of trouble with some of their CCTV
camera lenses; they would get wet or fog up and take hours to
clear. Which, needless to say, is incredibly frustrating when
trying to see what is going on; so they called us and asked
about our revolutionary hydrophilic glass that is used on our
Sidewinder and C-MAX lines of cameras?
Hydrophilic Glass is the
latest in glass technology which is “self cleaning” and very low
maintenance. Instead of water beading on the glass, it spreads
out to form a thin sheet which minimizes spots and streaks and
allows the glass to dry very quickly. It also helps wash off any
dirt or other organic material that may be on the glass.
Skeptical at first, right out of
the box the people at SFMTA immediately sprayed water on the
lens and in moments the glass was totally dry and clear again.
Intrigued, they set up the first camera, a
C-MAX Ultra II, at the
Phelan Loop Bus Stop right before one of our recent rain storms
(in January) and they have been just thrilled with the results.
